CO.RI.S.T.A. is a non-profit consortium for the research in the field of remote sensing systems. It designs and realises new prototypes of innovative microwave and electro-optical sensors, which can be installed on ground or aerospace platforms (balloons, aeroplanes, helicopters and satellites).
It has been founded in November 1988 in Naples with the aim of creating a close synergy between the University research and the world of industry. CO.RI.S.T.A. members are three universities of South Italy and two aerospace industries, who collaborate with their experiences and know-how to the realisation of innovative ideas. CO.RI.S.T.A. carries out its research programmes not only in the "traditional" fields of remote sensing: land management, environment, natural disasters monitoring and prevention, but also in new fields where the use of microwaves sensors and new electro-optical technologies discloses unexplored possibilities for the application of remote sensing to specific areas of interest. Its group of researchers runs a laboratory which is part of the Research Laboratories List recognised by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research and at a local level, is also recognised by Regione Campania as an organisation which can provide support to small and medium enterprises either for services or for scientific and technological development. At an international level CO.RI.S.T.A. is among research centres recognised by the European Space Agency as a potential partner for its Programmmes. CO.RI.S.T.A. is a member of the European Association of Remote Sensing Laboratories (EARSEL). |
