| REMPEC is a UN regional Centre established within the framework of the Mediterranean Action Plan by the decision of the Conference of Plenipotentiaries of the coastal States of the Mediterranean Region on Protection of the Mediterranean Sea in 1976. The Centre, which is based in Malta, has been administered by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and forms part of the Regional Seas network of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Its objectives, functions and work programme are defined by Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention. |
