Research Organisation

The National Oceanography Centre Southampton (NOCS) is one of the world's leading institutions devoted to research, teaching and technology development in ocean and earth science. The research mission of NOCS is to sustain international excellence, to play a key role in developing national and international research programmes, and to become Europe's leading academic centre for oceanography and marine geoscience

  • Portal for access to in-situ wave data (European, and global - US and Canadans already easily accessible)
  • Provide access to new (global) altimeter wave products (Tp, steepness, etc), and SAR directional wave spectra (not just ESA satellites). The portal must also provide access to information on the characteristics and validation of these data streams, esp. relative merits of different streams.
  • Intercomparison of satellite based wave retrievals
  • Develop wave (incl extreme wave) climatology products
  • GlobWAVE should stimulate collaboration of research and operational wave users.
  • HR-DDS with in-situ, model and satellite wave information.
