GHRSST International Project Office
Co-ordination of all scientific, operational and administrative aspects of the group for High Resolution Sea Surface Temperature (GHRSST).
|Title||GHRSST International Project Office|
|Programme||DUE (Data User Element)|
|Status||In progress (2003-2012)|
Sea surface temperature (SST) is required for use in the context of operational monitoring and forecasting of the ocean, for assimilation into coupled ocean-atmosphere model systems and for applications in short-term numerical weather prediction and longer term climate change detection.
Recognizing this need, the Global Ocean Data Assimilation Experiment (GODAE) high-resolution sea surface temperature pilot project (GHRSST-PP) was established to give international focus and coordination to the development of a new generation of global, multi-sensor, high-resolution (~6 hours and 10 km), SST products. this has now been superceded by the Group for High resolution SSt (GHRSST) since the end of GODAE in 2008.
GHRSST brings together international Space Agencies, Research Institutes, Universities, operational ocean forecasting agencies (civil and military) and Government agencies to collectively solve the scientific, logistical and managerial challenges posed by creating the SST data products and services within GHRSST.
The International GHRSST Project Office (jointly sponsored by the European Space Agency and the UK National Centre for Earth Observation) is responsible for the co-ordination of all scientific, operational and administrative aspects of the GHRSST project. The project officer manages the GHRSST International Science Team, user interactions and a number of Technical advisory groups (TAG). It takes advice from an international advisory team.
