| Organisation Description | Consorzio Venezia Nuova is the concessionary of the State - Ministry of Public Works - Water Authority of Venice responsible for implementing the programme of measures aimed at protecting Venice and its lagoon. The basic objectives are to restore hydrogeological balance in the lagoon, arrest and reverse the process of deterioration in the lagoon basin and eliminate its causes, reduce the height of tides in the lagoon, implement localized measures to defend the historic centre ("insulae") and to protect the lagoon's urban settlements from exceptional high tides through the construction of mobile tidal surge barriers at the lagoon mouths. This signifies not just restoring and protecting the lagoon ecosystem, but also controlling and managing its future evolution. |
