The focal objective of the MINERVAproject was the design, development and assessment of a demonstrative small scale information service based on processing of images from the ASAR instrument on board ENVISAT-I. The goal of such information service was to provide the target User, the Osservatorio Vesuviano, with an innovative tool for monitoring of the environmental risk derived from volcanic phenomena in the Vesuvian Area, particularly the subsidence in the Campi Flegrei zone. The Osservatorio Vesuviano has indeed the responsibility of alerting civil authorities (Protezione Civile) in case such monitoring activity reveals signals of imminent earthquakes or eruptions. |
