| The observatory of Vesuvio, is a part of the National Institution for Geophysics and Volcanoes and is a public scientific institute in the geophysics and volcanic activity research sections and as a observatory for the volcanoes. The Agency INGV-OV in its surveillance activity, is the reference point for the whole volcanic area of the province of Campania (Vesuvio, Campi Flegrei and Ischia). The main agencies and institutions that participate to the finance of the Vesuvian Observatory are the Ministry for the education of the University for Science and Research (MIUR) and the Civil Protection Department. Established in 1841, The Vesuvio's Observatory is the oldest observatory for volcanic activity of the world. The historic location, by the Vesuvio, has also got a museum, a library and some laboratories, while the seismic activity surveillance is done from Naples. |
