The SEVESEO project intended to apply space-based observations together with geo-spatial techniques to the management of industrial risk and technological accidents, in relation to the SEVESO II directive of the European Union (96/82/EC). This implied the modelling of pollutant dispersions for the various types of dispersion in air, soil and water.

The main objective of the SEVESEO project was to define, specify, design, develop, integrate, verify and install at user premises an EO and model based information system - also called SEVESEO Decision Making tool- to support Civil Protection Authorities in their activities related to the "industrial risk zonation" and "technological accident scenarios analysis" of SEVESO II industrial sites.

The second objective was the demonstration and qualification of the SEVESEO decision-making tool on 30 technological accident scenarios in SEVESO II establishments located in Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg and Netherlands.
